Inverse Luck

Short Film - Camera Operation by Jesse Livingstone and Bundu Nwafor-Ezelue
April 2026

Inverse Luck is a short mockumentary film about two best friends with a peculiar relationship: when one has good luck, the other has bad luck. The film was directed by Karysa Leicht, with me taking on the role of camera assistant.

As camera assistant, my primary responsibilities included pulling focus, controlling zooms, assisting with framing, and operating the camera for shots when the main camera operator was unavailable. Due to scheduling conflicts, I was required to independently film portions of the production, taking on responsibilities beyond my original role.

This was particularly challenging due to the amount of camera movement and focus racking required throughout the film. I had to carefully coordinate camera movement, framing, focus, and timing simultaneously while maintaining the visual style established by the rest of the production.

This project taught me how to stay adaptable on set and confidently take on responsibilities outside of my initial role. It also strengthened my ability to manage multiple technical aspects of cinematography at once, particularly when working under time and production constraints.
