Rock Paper Scissors
Short Film - Camera Operation by Jesse Livingstone
November 2025
Rock Paper Scissors is a short film directed by Karysa Leicht in which I operated the camera. The film was produced as part of the 2025 University of Regina Film Students Omnibus Film, University Life on Campus.
The film was created under a strict set of guidelines: it had to be shot entirely on campus, feature a maximum of five lines of dialogue, include only one to two characters, run no longer than two minutes, and creatively explore the theme of “University Life on Campus.”
Working as the camera operator, I was responsible for framing, lighting, and pulling focus for every shot in the film. The production challenged me to make deliberate visual choices within significant creative and technical limitations, while maintaining a consistent visual style across the film.
This project strengthened my ability to communicate visually and adapt quickly on set. Working within a highly restricted format also taught me how effective cinematography can come from making intentional choices rather than relying on elaborate setups or equipment.
