Don’t Get Caught
Don’t Get Caught is a goofy comedy film centred around a mafia heist. My intention with this film was to take a traditionally serious topic and turn it into something fun and goofy that audiences can laugh at, while keeping them engaged with a strong, character-driven plot. Inspired heavily by the character-driven humour of Mike Judge, the film focuses less on punchlines and more on how flawed personalities collide under pressure.
I wrote, directed, produced, edited, and colour graded this film, and managed a crew of 6 and a cast of 4. This project marked my first attempt at writing and directing a full comedy film. Coming from a background of more dramatic and serious storytelling, learning how to balance comedic timing with narrative stakes became one of the most rewarding challenges of the production.
Throughout production, I learned the importance of trusting collaboration. Working closely with my crew helped me focus on maintaining momentum and energy on set. In post-production, I experimented heavily with sound design and editing rhythm to find a tone that supported the performances without overwhelming them.
Don’t Get Caught ultimately became an important creative milestone for me, both as an exploration of comedy filmmaking and as a lesson in how strong pre-production, collaboration, and restraint can shape the final identity of a film.
